Set Essay Brief; ideas generation
In this module, I am going to write a set of essay within my subject area that is media and communication. The essay should be 1000 words (+/-10%) in length. In class were given topics to choose according to our subject area. I chose to do a question on film work. In this question, I am supposed to analyze a scene from the ALFRED HITCHCOCK film Vertigo. I am to discuss and analyse the cinematography of the film, the lighting, the sound, camera angles, and mise-en-scene in relation to how this affects the viewers perception of the scene.
Before I start working on the essay writing I structured down what the question was about and the main points of discussion. I created a mind map of the topic. Below is the mind map;
Before starting writing the essay, I will think about the structure of the essay and the research.
Name: Mary Muthoni |
Your Chosen Set Question: Film analysis
|
What do you already know about the question?
I have already watched the film and decided to analyze the scene posted on the additional materials on the blackboard.
|
What do you need to find out? What research will you carry out?
Cinematography and mise-en-scene used by Alfred Hitchcrock and analyze their effects on the audience. Research and discuss the colors used in the scene and their meaning behind them. Research why Alfred uses that kind of lighting and cinematography at large in his film
|
How should the essay be structured? Consider the essay in sections and make a plan here about how you will carry this out?
Introduction- Introduce the topic and the film, without discussing it in detail and also explain the aim and objectives of the essay. Paragraph 1- analyse the camera angles used in the scene and research why Alfred used the particular angles and how they affect the audience. Paragraph 2- discuss the mise-en-scene and cinematography and explain the meaning (lighting, music, sound) Paragraph 3- explain the lighting Conclusion- to sum up the main points without introducing a new idea that is discussed in the main body.
