Hey there,

Welcome to the new term,

I am so happy to have you here, my name is Mary Muthoni, a student at De Montfort University studying Media and Communication. I am using this blog for my learning, post contextual results, and keep my records on elements that I will have developed in class and also skills that are related to my progression route. I will use this blog to publish my assignments in class throughout the term. The final outcome of this blog will be presented in form of a digital portfolio demonstrating my ability to explore and develop my ideas. To begin with I would like to talk about a photographer who inspires me in the field of photography ( street photography).

Linda Wisdom is a street photographer from London. Her love for photography started as an accident. A photographer loaned her a DSLR camera to learn about photography basics. Within two months of her training, that's how she realized that her work mostly involved humans and portraits.  She learned about street photography through Henri-Cartier Bresson after she posted a photo on Flickr and someone commented that the particular photo reminded them of Henri and after Linda come across the comment she immediately googled about him and she liked his photography and that's where her passion for street photography began (121clicks. 2014)

In an interview, Linda was asked how she takes her photographs. She said that it all depends on whether she has projects ongoing or not. Other times she takes the photographs voluntarily depending on the moods, the location, and the weather of the day (Gardiner M. 2018)

I found her work interesting because she got very clear and inspiring photographs that will inspire me for my project as I am thinking of doing a project under photography on a theme that is street photography only if the idea is agreed upon and signed off by my tutor.

Research on photographers using sketchbooks or journals.

For our self study this week we were asked to research designers, filmmakers, photographers or writers who are using sketchbooks or journals in our subject area. Since my subject area is on photography I am going to do a research on photographers, look at their work and analyse their working process and also discuss what I have learnt from this research. Below are example of photographers i have been looking at their work; 1.Eric Kim Source;   Eric Kim image Eric Kim is a street photographer currently based in Los Angeles. He was born in 1988 in United State. I started by researching  Andrew Prokos' white and black photography. His Ultra-high-definition black and white photos are known for their sharpness and clarity. In his photography work, Andrew Prokos focuses on design to capture the wonders of the urban atmosphere and its typically underappreciated intricacies. In his cityscapes, Prokos’s pictures lengthen the sense of marvel associated with degreed detail in an urban skyline. In his subject area pictures, that he's best famous, he captures the customarily unnoticed aspects of contemporary and style of architecture.
