Research on photographers using sketchbooks or journals.

For our self study this week we were asked to research designers, filmmakers, photographers or writers who are using sketchbooks or journals in our subject area. Since my subject area is on photography I am going to do a research on photographers, look at their work and analyse their working process and also discuss what I have learnt from this research. Below are example of photographers i have been looking at their work;

1.Eric Kim

Eric Kim is a street photographer currently based in Los Angeles. He was born in 1988 in United State. In his article he explains that his interest in street photography happened by chance.The story is quite interesting and inspiring.He says that he was standing at the bus stop but does he does say where he was heading probably he was travelling then he spotted a man with horn-shaped glasses reading a book. He says that he felt a unique moment at that time which lead him to take out his camera. At the time he put the camera to his eye the man looked at him directly and he immediately clicked to capture the shot. That was his first street photograph and he started having interest and went on shooting more streets photography.
In his blog and workshop he explains and advise those people who fear to shoot strangers. Another interesting fact about Eric Kim is that he likes teaching .He once taught a photography class in Los Angeles, online course at UC Riverside in university level.
He also says that he have also taught street photography in several countries such as London, Toronto, Tokyo etc.

In his blog he does not only talk about photography work but  also  talks about wealth, health and society but for my blog I am only going to talk about his photography work. In case you would be interested to visit his blog to learn more about wealth, health, and societies i will leave a link of the website at the bottom page of the blog. According to Eric Kim, photography is everything. One of his articles that I found important for me is 'HOW TO BECOME A MORE CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHER'

HOW TO BECOME A MORE CREATIVE PHOTOGRAPHER.
We as photographers we are all creative in our own ways which may differ in many ways.
Eric says that one should shoot as much as possible as this helps someone to take risk and also improve your creativity as you learn through shooting more.
In his blog he explains 7 interesting points on how to become more creative in photography but for my blog i am going to

1.Strive to be creative everyday.
According to Eric Kim photograph is not all about shooting with camera, he says one should utilise all parts of creative muscles that is writing, drawing etc.Since photograph means 'writing with light' you should focus creative writing arts.He says that when drawing you should draw things that are fun and genuine to you and not drawings that are good or bad.

In his work he prefers drawing digitally with ZEN BRUSH using an iPhone or iPad. Since am not good in drawing manually i would prefer drawing digitally using the Zen Brush app as Eric does.Below are some images i found in his blog;

                                        b.Fear hate abstract

2.Shoot your images with small JPEG (with a filter in-camera) for digital photography.

This allows you to shoot more and lowers the barrier to shooting by doing this you will be more experienced hence improve your photograph creativity.

3.Share your photos on blog.
Sharing out your photos on blog is a good idea to consider.Eric Kim says self-hosted blog is the best place to publish your photos.This format can either be a video slide show, or standard gallery.
Example of street photos that he shared in his blog;

  1. Your sources should not be http addresses you should be using the text to display with the source - you were taught this last term. This is a good start on this and you have looked at how another photographer works
